Dr. Jeremy Duck has been teaching music since 2013, working with students in both private and group settings at universities and music academies. He has taught at the University of Texas at Austin, West Texas A&M University, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he also provided masterclasses and supervised instruction. He joined Nissa’s String Academy in 2019.
Dr. Jeremy holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His musical journey began with piano lessons as a child, progressing through the Suzuki method before studying with university professors. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Piano Performance from Amarillo College, followed by a Bachelor’s in Piano and Vocal Performance from West Texas A&M University and a Master’s in Piano Performance. He has also studied collaborative piano internationally in England, Austria, and Hungary, focusing on art song, choral music, and contemporary works.
As a teacher, Dr. Jeremy takes a learner-centered approach, encouraging students to take charge of their musical growth. He emphasizes problem-solving, creative expression, and building strong practice techniques. He enjoys working with students of all ages and levels, tailoring lessons to their individual needs. His favorite part of teaching is seeing students overcome challenges and apply their skills to new pieces with confidence.
Dr. Jeremy is an active performer, playing for church services, choral groups, opera productions, and school ensembles. He also records piano accompaniments for vocalists and instrumentalists and is developing a series of video lectures on keyboard music. While his passion lies in classical music—particularly works from World War II to the present—he believes in exposing students to a wide range of styles, from jazz to pop to improvisation. When he’s not at the piano, he enjoys creating ambigrams and mirrorgrams (though he admits his drawing skills could use some work!).
